The conflict between new and old underscores most of the story elements in Robot & Frank, the intriguing tale of a robotic personal aide and a retired career criminal.

Seventy-year-old Frank (Langella) can't remember things very well anymore. He forgets to clean his house, wash his clothes, and buy fresh milk. He's uncertain how long he and his ex-wife have been divorced, and can't remember that his favorite local restaurant closed years ago. Most shocking of all, the opening scene depicts Frank, a former cat burglar, breaking into a home only to discover that it's his own house.
