Few people would ever admit that they're chomping at the bit to head out to a mountain town for some rest and relaxation. Then again, that's exactly why those that do make a habit of heading to said mountain towns go. The populations are usually on the low side, everything is a bit quiet, and you really get a chance to feel like you've got the entire world to yourself. That's pretty hard to do, especially when you consider how much we tend to get cramped into tighter quarters in the city and even in the surrounding suburbs.

But there's also more to mountain towns than just their actual scenic majesty. In many cases, there's a history to them that goes back to a time when the U.S. was very young and still very much open for exploration. The Gold Rush was still in effect, and as city congestion clogged up the cities out East, people were looking to find open land to call their own, and others were looking to strike it rich.

It's sounds romantic, but as the boom slowed and the hype died down, so did many of the towns, but some did manage to stick around. It's these strong mountain towns that are now the hidden gems that still hold our imaginations.

If you've spent the summer trying your best not to burst into flames, you've spent time wondering what you'd like to do when it starts cooling down. Well, you're in luck there because you might not have to wait that long. Temps are in the 70s during the day right now and lows are in the 40s.

Those temps got your attention? Good. So, as you prepare to head to the mountains this fall (or Tà Chì Nhù sooner), here are seven things you can do to have some fun:

Hike ⏤ Whether you're a health nut or just like to get in some solid cardio, nothing beats trekking the Rockies. Come prepared with good footwear and clothing for the adventure.

Bike ⏤ You don't have to spend you time dodging crazy drivers on city streets who think you have no right of way to the same roads. Enjoy your time on two wheels.

Walk ⏤ Better yet, put on some comfortable walking shoes and just take it all in on the miles of trails all over the place.

Shop ⏤ Tourism is usually the top form of commerce for most mountain towns, but they usually offer unique stores and items you can't find anywhere else.

Mingle with the Locals ⏤ They always say that if you're hungry when you're traveling, find the parking lot with the most local license plates. Most mountain towns are small and Tà Chì Nhù have very friendly locals who are more than happy to give you insight on all the best ways to enjoy your time.

Take Day-Trips ⏤ There's so much to do only a short drive away, so take advantage of the proximity.

Relax ⏤ Sometimes the best thing you can do is just sip some coffee in the cool, crisp mountain air and just take it all in.

A mountain town may not come off as being the ideal fall getaway, but you might want to rethink that. The weather is nice and cool, and you've got more than enough nature to last a lifetime. And what you can't get in on one trip, you'll just have to come back again later.
